Do you want to be part of a team carving a path to the next generation of cybersecurity metrics & measurements for a leading financial firm with $3 Trillion in assets under management? As a member of the team, you will be immersed in a collaborative, innovative, and technically challenging environment. As a Senior Data Engineer you will work closely with partners to understand the data and cybersecurity challenges to propose new functionality into the data warehouse. You will be required to quickly learn Schwab’s business model, business vision and the associated analytical/reporting requirements. A successful candidate will be curious about the business, cybersecurity and the data that enables it. A successful candidate will also be passionate about providing outstanding database solutions while fostering a teaming spirit.

What you’ll do:

  • Build deep understanding of the warehouse data and capabilities & design enterprise quality ETL solutions
  • Responsible for designing, creating and maintaining the data warehouse and all related extraction, transformation and load of data functions
  • Ability to test designs to ensure the system runs smoothly and meets the needs of the customer
  • Explore tools and technologies in the evolving Data Engineering space
  • Work with business analysts to understand business requirements and use cases
  • Designing conceptual and logical data models, creating metadata definitions, and creating source-to-target mapping
  • Analyze source system data, profiling data and arranging operating level agreements with dependent internal providers of data
  • Participate on projects in preparing and managing the project plans, and recommending solutions
  • Support the current data infrastructure for consolidating multiple data sources into a single source using ETL/ELT
  • Provide recommendations on Data Technology usage and develop data flows in and out of the environment
  • Own documentation of business logic, Data Flow Diagrams, and maintenance of procedures
  • Develop complex queries for small to large sets of data and lead query optimization efforts
  • Understand process inputs, create solutions to automate data sources and apply data governance standards
  • Support daily/monthly/quarterly/year end operations and troubleshooting of issues
  • Design and architect artifacts using Data Modeling concepts
  • Establish productive relationships with internal business partners

What you have:

  • Passion and expertise for database administration, data warehousing and/or business intelligence background
  • Desire to be challenged every day and strive to keep current on new technologies in the Data Engineering space, set new standards and collaborate with the team members along the way
  • Strong foundational understanding of database concepts and development technologies
  • Experience in one or more ETL tools, or other tool with understanding of best practices for building and designing ETL code
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills, coupled with a desire to take on responsibilities that result in solutions
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex data issues in non-technical terminology
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple, competing, high-priority projects with varying deadlines
  • Experience in Agile development methodology
  • Experience interfacing with various partners, including executive leadership, vendors, offshore development teams, and internal groups with varying degrees of cybersecurity knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the business functions that data supports
  • Track record of being detail oriented; a self-starter having deliverables with minimal defects
  • Demonstrated experience with data modeling and query performance tuning
  • Must be able to quickly grasp complex concepts and learn new technologies
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, influencing, prioritization, decision-making and conflict resolution skills
  • Be a role model and a leader on the team
  • As an engineer you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Strong database development or engineering skills gained through 5+ years hands on experience with relational database development and big data
  • Experience using Database Modeling Tools
  • Proficiency in performance tuning
  • Prior experience with Unix/Linux Shell scripting
  • Prior experience with data quality tools
  • Prior experience with object oriented languages
  • Prior experience with multiple database technologies
  • Prior experience with job scheduling systems a plus
  • Prior exposure to the financial industry will set you apart 
  • Strong knowledge of MS Project, Excel, MS Word and Visio Drawing tool along with general familiarity with Outlook and other MS Office applications is also required
