Our Opportunity:

The Retail Web Technology (RWT) department at Charles Schwab is a leading edge organization in terms of technical strategy and delivery. We are currently undergoing a transformation to a more agile/lean process methodology, with a vision to get to continuous integration/continuous delivery.    We are implementing cutting edge Agile practices such as Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD) and Paired Programming. We are also adopting Lean Management practices such as Standard Work, Visual Management Systems and Gemba Walks. 

What you’ll do:

We are looking for a talented Technical Director to join the Retail Web Technology (RWT) leadership team. This individual should be a recognized technical leader and architect with a passion for keeping up-to-date and using cutting-edge web technologies to build interactive web applications. As a Technical Director, you will be responsible for providing vision, design, and leadership to the technology teams responsible for the implementation of trading solutions. You will also participate in a leadership capacity in software engineering using advanced development patterns and build high performant, scalable web applications with modular widgets/views. You will evolve and enhance existing web applications. You will actively collaborate with the development teams and technology leaders across Schwab technology on product development, best practices, and automation. The successful candidate works in a self-directed manner and interacts with technology and business partners at all levels. Finally, you are comfortable in a fast-paced customer focused environment that continually embraces the latest technologies and techniques. 

RWT is in the process of a large transformation to Lean, Agile and Continuous Delivery practices. The CD practices include Test Driven Development (TDD), Behavior Driven Development (BDD), Continuous Integration (CI) and creation of an automated deployment pipeline among other practices. The Technical Director will assist the Scrum teams with these practices and also help with the transition of the platform from dedicated infrastructure to a cloud platform such as Pivotal Cloud Foundry.  You will possess a keen knowledge, desire, and passion to produce usable and scalable web software using advanced development technologies.

What you have:

Required skills:

  • Technical Thought Leader who is abreast of the latest technologies and techniques, and is comfortable working across multiple projects driving the technical decisions and direction
  • 10+ Years’ experience and expert proficiency in web based software development, with a strong knowledge of .NET/C#, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, and CSS
  • 5+ years of Technical Lead/Architect experience
  • Extensive experience in Agile software development principles, and modern software delivery practices including Lean, Continuous Integration & Continuous Delivery
  • Strong knowledge of design patterns, WebAPI & RESTful Services
  • Experience in applying client side MV* frameworks such as backbone.js and angularJS
  • Experience with Responsive Design and Single Page Applications (SPA)
  • Self-motivated, quick learner who can manage multiple projects with minimal direction

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience in migrating and deploying web applications to Pivotal Cloud Foundry or other cloud platforms (Azure, AWS) is a plus
  • Experience in application performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Experience in developing against NoSQL storage; e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra
  • Experience in Web Accessibility
  • Experience with UML
  • Experience with the Atlassian suite of products: JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, Bamboo and HipChat
