Our Opportunity:

Brokerage Accounting is the group that supports Schwab's critical trading platform. This role is a critical development leader overseeing Agile dev and QA teams.

What you’ll do:

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is what you get when you treat operations as if it’s a software problem. Our mission is to progress, protect, and provide for the software and systems behind all of Schwab’s Brokerage Accounting systems with an ever-watchful eye on their availability, latency, performance, and capacity. 

What you have:

  • This is an unusual job, unlike others in the industry. Like traditional operations groups, we keep important, revenue-critical systems up and running despite hurricanes, bandwidth outages, and configuration problems. Unlike traditional operations groups, we also have full access to and authority to fix, extend, and scale the code to keep it working and harden it against all the vagaries of the Internet. Strong candidates will have experience with both. 
  • We’re looking for a seasoned operations manager to head up our overall Operations and Infrastructure efforts. You will lead the teams (DevOps, SRE, Systems Engineering Services) towards delivering the right technology, systems, and processes to ensure reliability, availability and uptime of various Schwab Trading systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience managing an engineering team on large-scale projects with technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and/or storage.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience managing High-Volume/Transaction Websites.
  • 3+ years’ experience in Financial Services Industry a plus.
  • Passion for automation, data-driven decision making, staying current with industry trends and information reporting
  • Experience with productivity improvements and software based automation
  • Excellent incident management and trouble shooting skills
  • Experience with continuous build and deployment process/tools
  • Ability to define best practices for building successful  monitoring and alerting system
  • Leadership and Demonstrated ability to define and communicate strategy and vision and influence across the Enterprise is essential
  • Ability to identify talent, recruit, hire, and build high performing teams
  • Ability to coach, mentor, and provide direct, timely performance feedback; experience setting direction, tracking progress, and ensuring accountability
  • Drive excellence for reliability through maintenance of SLAs, efficient process, relentless automation, engineering reliability back into applications and maximizing performance.
  • Plan and coordinate the transition of new software systems and service applications from a development into a production footing. This includes establishing procedures and policy that will ensure sustainable deployment, monitoring, upgrade and expansion of services.
  • Lead by example, care for your team, and establish credibility with the quality of your and your team's technical execution.
  • Establish best practices and craft runbooks for the SRE team to follow
