Our Opportunity:

 

 

The Schwab Equity Ratings Department is a quant team located in Chicago which primarily focuses on domestic and international equity models.  The Software Development Engineer position is part of the Schwab Equity Ratings Department’s Operations Team.  The team’s primary objective is to ensure reliable model executions and dependable research data.  In order to ensure reliable execution and dependable data, the Software Development Engineer will assist the team in designing and developing new features, controls and reports.

 

What you’ll do:

 

 

The Software Developer position combines the skills of a software developer and a data analyst.  The developer will work primarily with the programming languages of R and SQL on platform improvement projects involving model controls and source data changes.  The developer will also assist in extending functionality of model development operations and production capabilities.  A successful candidate will be proficient in a statistical programming language such as R, Python, or Matlab,  moderately proficient in SQL, and possess a willingness to learn financial databases. This position is based in our 150 S. Wacker Dr. Chicago office locationOccasional weekend work is required, typically no more than 30 minutes to an hour of time, with overtime compensation.

 

What you have:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics or related quantitative field with a maximum of three years professional experience
  • Academic or early career exposure to one of the following statistical languages: R, Python, Matlab, or equivalent.  Proficient in at least one.
  • Proficient in SQL, JAVA, C++ or C#  a plus
  • Knowledge of any R packages in the following set is a plus: dplyr, data.table, rOxygen, ggPlot2, devtools,  tidyr, rmarkdown, lubridate
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills, as they relate to data wrangling, reporting and R data file accuracy
  • Quality Assurance, Testing, and Documentation experience a plus
  • Knowledge of financial markets and financial data a plus
  • Other technical skills include:
    • Unit testing and test-driven development,
    • Agile-like development methods,
    • Change management, especially git source control functions
    • Knowledge of Linux is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within teams
  • Positive attitude, enthusiasm, professionalism and strong work ethic with high level of integrity
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and presentation skills to influence and build consensus among your team members and senior leadership
